According to customer reviews, Black Marlin Sportfishing, Cabo Sportfishing Crew โ€“ Blue Tail, and Cabo Mahi Mahi โ€“ Samantha are some of the most popular fishing charters in Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur. Full list of top fishing charters in Cabo San Lucas.

Black Marlin Sportfishing, Cabo Sportfishing Crew โ€“ Blue Tail, and Cabo Mahi Mahi โ€“ Samantha all received great reviews from families who booked fishing trips in Cabo San Lucas.

The most popular fish species you can target are Dolphin (Mahi Mahi), Blue Marlin, and Yellowfin Tuna. Top fishing techniques include trolling, bottom fishing, and deep sea fishing. Offshore fishing, inshore fishing, and nearshore fishing are commonly offered by local guides.

Cabo San Lucas, Los Cabos, or simply “Cabo” to most visitors, is well-known across the continent. It’s a hub for spring break and summer vacations, but it’s also home to some of the best angling action in the Americas. Cabo San Lucas’ fishing charters are legendary, allowing the town to brand itself as the unofficial “Marlin Capital of the World.”

At the meeting point of the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez, Cabo attracts an array of prized fish. Year-round, you can find Marlin biting at the end of your line with Striped Marlin appearing in winter and Blue and Black varieties available in the warmer months.

However, it rarely gets cold here, so there’s never a bad time to visit. The Sea of Cortez attracts Mahi Mahi and Yellowfin Tuna just a few miles from shore, along with dazzling, exotic Roosterfish and exciting Yellowtails. Head further offshore, and the Billfish bite is sensational, with Sailfish and Swordfish joining Marlin for the chance to complete a “Grand Slam.”

One of the perks of casting from a Cabo San Lucas fishing charter is that you can land a monster fish on a trip as short as a few hours. The productive waters nearshore are ripe for fishing, and 4–6 hours can be enough to land dinner. However, the real prizes come offshore, where a full day or extended full day trip will take you 15–50 miles out to the banks.

Rules & Regulations

Every angler fishing in Mexico needs a license, however, most captains in Cabo will arrange yours for you. Get in touch with your charter operator before you go to confirm, or pick yours up by the dock. You should also beware that you can’t cook your catch on board, so if you want a fishy dinner, you’d better bring your own snacks.

January

Visit Cabo in January, and you'll enjoy some of the best weather of the year. This is usually a dry month, so you can head out and search for Striped Marlin and Yellowfin Tuna offshore, along with Roosterfish inshore.

February

The conditions are generally good but spring storms are a possibility. Watch out for colder currents potentially hampering the conditions. But inshore fishing is very good and the bottom bite heats up offshore, too.

March

Spring Break sees great conditions in Cabo. The Marlin bite can slow down at the start of the month, but it may come back at the end, while Yellowtails and Spanish Mackerel show up inshore for a real fishing frenzy.

April

With temperatures in the mid 80s and humidity generally lower than usual, April has great conditions with virtually no rain. You'll find Striped Marlin and Dorado biting offshore, with Yellowtail and Roosterfish inshore.

May

It weather really begins to heat up come May. Offshore, you can find a good Striped Marlin bite, with exciting Dorado action too. Closer to shore, the Roosterfish season begins to kick off for real, so get your fill!

June

With water temperatures averaging 94 degrees, this is a month for those who like it hot. Fish offshore for Striped Marlin, Blue Marlin, Wahoo, and big Tuna. Inshore, Roosterfish is on fire, and Snappers and Groupers are biting.

July

July is the warmest month in Cabo and the fishing is hot, too. This is a month for Billfish fans, with Striped Marlin, Sailfish, and Blue Marlin all in the cards. Don't forget about inshore, where monster Roosterfish await.

August

You guessed it – it's hot. August is the wettest month of the year, but don't let that put you off. This is the month for big game anglers, with Black and Blue Marlin on the list Inshore, Wahoo and Dorado join Roosterfish.

September

Tropical storms may threaten but, when the weather allows, this is one of the best months for fishing. You'll find big Yellowfin Tuna, Blue and Black Marlin, and Sailfish to name a few offshore, with Roosterfish in the bay.

October

The world famous Bisbees Black and Blue Tournament is the talk of the town – this is something no sportfishing fan will want to miss. With cooler weather and big fish, this is the best fishing month in Cabo San Lucas.

November

The humidity and temperature drop, so you'll want to make the most of it. Don't miss the WON Tuna Jackpot at the beginning of the month, not the chance to land Striped Marlin, Dorado, and Wahoo, among more.

December

If you want to land a lot of different species in one day, December is the month for you. The main target is Striped Marlin, with Wahoo, Dorado, Yellowfin Tuna offering a prized supporting cast offshore, along with more inshore.

We really enjoyed fishing but the sea was a bit rough. Cabo in May-June is changing seasons so the winds are very present. This made the sea a bit rough and for someone who gets motion sick it was a bit much. Just keep that in mind and go fishing in the morning and not in the afternoon if your fishing during these months.

Great weather and some of the fish were biting. Not sure if you would come away with a trophy as I'm not expert, but you'll come away with something to eat and show, for sure.

Captain louis and Anthony are really awesome. Caught 12 Dorado and they wouldn't quit till we caught fish. We caught 9 mahi one morning and they shut down the port and had to quit early because of wind. They offered to take us out again to get our full day finished and we we caught three more huge Dorado. They are very easy going and go to any length to get you your fish.

Pack a light jacket and sunscreen. The temperature was low 60's in the morning and heated up to low 80's mid day. Make sure you have a way of transporting your catch back with you. One collapsible cooler will fit about 50lbs of fish (and is still fairly manageable to transport).

We did the half day trip and it was such a great time! The the captain and the crew took care of everything! We caught a marlin, a sail fish and two Mahi Mahi! They cut up the Mahi for us, so we could take it back to our resort for dinner! They were very friendly and it was such a fun time out on the boat. Booked with Capt Juan on the Blue Tail. Turns out the boat had to get serviced the day before. Not a problem at all. Capt Juan put us on a comparable boat. Andres the Mate took great care of us, explaining everything and making sure we had plenty of cold drinks. 2 hours in, we hooked a beautiful Striped Marlin. Unfortunately that was the only fish of the day, but what a great experience. Weโ€™re already planning our next trip back, later this year.

Black Marlin Sport fishing did not disappoint! We went out for a half day charter chasing rooster fish. Bite was slow so Capt. suggested we go offshore for the remainder of the trip. Sure glad we did. Hooked into a 350/400lb Blue Marlin! Fought that beautiful fish for 4 and a half hours on a Tiagra 30wโ€ฆ..finally broke me off on our last run together. Back at it again Aug 18th. We had a great day with Captain Manny and Deckhand Jose. We met at dock four just like instructed and took off shortly after 6 am. Both Manny and Jose were welcoming and spoke good English. Went out yesterday for 8 hours, all inclusive. Casey showed us all types of marine life, including finback whales, sea lions, turtles, a pod of probably 100 black dolphins, which came right to the boat to check is out. He promised a Dorado for dinner and a Marlin, we caught dinner at the start, and the elusive Blue Marlin right in the last hour. Dream come true and highly recommend, he will not disappoint
