That is why every year, 35 million Americans buy fishing licenses. Whether they're jigging for halibut, surfcasting for blues or fly-fishing for rainbows, the motivation is largely the same: For most it's more about the fishing than the catching.

1/9/12
Specifically because there are carp and channel catfish in the Hudson River , I regulary fish the River. Carp are a great resource - available all seasons, grow big, and can be caught from shore with reasonably- priced tackle and ordinary bait. I release them.
I'm glad to see the channel cats also increasing in numbers and size. What I say about the carp, goes ditto for the cats.
      Terrific recreational resources - both.

I just caught a 250-25lbs carp n the hudson river, I reeled him in for about 5 to 10 minutes and then some guy decides to jupo over the banister and touch my line, snapping my fish off, All I wanted was the picture. He was going to go back in the water.I couldn't get the picture. What a bummer Why would anyone touch someone elses fishing line, as I was telling him "It's ok leave it' I got it" he would not listen??? Don't touch another mans line,fish,etc,....Ever!

What about the Piermont pier? I am pretty sure that this is one of, or is, the largest man made pier on the Hudson River. It is located really close to the Tappan Zee Bridge and you are able to catch a wide variety of aquatic creatures. Such as, Stripers, Carp, Blue Crab, Perch, and the occasional eel or bluefish.
